Privacy policy

This policy explains what FamilyCarousel collects, why we collect it, and who else sees it. FamilyCarousel is an app a family shares to plan meals, keep track of the pantry, shop, and manage the grocery budget.

Who we are

FamilyCarousel is run by Battleline Productions LLC, doing business as FamilyCarousel. Send questions and requests about your data to privacy@battlelineproductions.com.

What we collect and why

We collect what the app needs to work:

• Your account. Your name and email address, from the service you sign in with. We use them to identify you and to show your name to your family.
• Your family. The families you belong to, their members, and each member's role and permissions.
• Invites. The email address of someone you invite, so we can send them the invite.
• Money. Budgets, transactions, and receipts. When we read a receipt, we leave card numbers and cardholder names out of what we save.
• Photos. Photos of receipts and photos of recipes you import.
• Kitchen. Recipes, pantry items, meal plans, and the shopping list.
• Food preferences. What your family likes and must avoid, including any allergies you enter.

Who we share it with

We share your data only with the services that run FamilyCarousel, and only so they can do that work:

• Auth0 handles sign-in.
• Amazon Web Services runs the app and stores photos, in the United States.
• DigitalOcean hosts our database.
• Anthropic, the maker of Claude, reads receipt photos, recipe photos, and recipe web pages, and suggests meals. For meal ideas we send your pantry, recent meals, recipe titles, food likes and avoids, and how much money is left in your grocery budget. We do not send your name or email address.
• CommuniQueue, our own email service, sends invite emails through Twilio SendGrid.
• Open Food Facts receives only the barcode when you scan a product.
• When you import a recipe from a link, our server visits that web page to read it.

We will also share data when the law requires it.

Signing in with Google

If you sign in with Google, Google shares your basic profile with Auth0, our sign-in provider. FamilyCarousel uses only your name and email address from it, to create your account and to show your name to your family. We do not use your Google data for ads or to train AI models, we do not sell it, and we do not share it except as this policy describes.

Kid accounts

A family's adults can create accounts for their kids. For a kid account we collect only a display name, a username, and a password, and Auth0 stores the password. We never ask a kid for an email address or other contact details.

What we do not do

• We do not show ads.
• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not use analytics or tracking tools in the app.

Analytics on this website

This website, familycarousel.com, uses analytics to show us how visitors find and use it. The app itself has none.

• Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page visits, where visitors came from, and how fast pages load. It sets no cookies and does not follow you to other websites, so it runs for every visitor.
• Google Analytics measures visits, the pages people view, and actions such as scrolling and clicking links to other websites. It runs only if you choose Accept in the cookie banner.
• Microsoft Clarity shows us how people use the pages through heatmaps and recordings of visits, including clicks, scrolling, and mouse movement. It runs only if you choose Accept in the cookie banner.

Google and Microsoft receive your IP address and details about your browser and device. We turn off Google's advertising features. To learn how they use this data, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services and the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. If you switch to Decline, we remove the Google Analytics and Clarity cookies from your browser.

Cookies and device storage

The app uses no cookies. It saves your sign-in and the last family you opened on your device, or in your browser's local storage on the web. It also saves the shopping list on your device so the list works without a connection.

This website sets cookies only for Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, and only after you accept. It remembers your cookie choice in your browser's local storage.

How long we keep data, and your choices

We keep your family's data for as long as your family uses FamilyCarousel. Receipt photos stay until you delete them or delete the receipt. Photos you upload to import a recipe are deleted after 90 days, or right away when you delete the recipe made from them.

To get a copy of your data, correct it, or have it deleted, email privacy@battlelineproductions.com. The app has no delete or export button yet, so we handle these requests by hand.

Security

Every connection to FamilyCarousel is encrypted. Photos are stored privately and open only through links that expire after a short time. Each family's data is kept apart from every other family's, in the app and in the database.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use your data in a significant way, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
